We just received this email from AdECN. The referral link goes to John Ebbert’s AdExchanger.com website:

Dear AdECN Member,

Thank you for your use of AdECN’s services and participation on the Hosted system of the AdECN Exchange for the last few years. We regret to inform you that AdECN has made the difficult decision to close the Hosted system in accordance with following timeline:
• February 15, 2010 will be the final day that ads will be served. This closure will include all ad-serving, any default code, and all other AdECN services.
• However, we will continue to provide UI access until March 15, 2010, after which point there will no longer be any login access to the AdECN Exchange. You will not be able to access the AdECN Exchange, including any data you have stored on the system, after March 15.
• All balances will be paid in full by March 31, 2010.

We are committed to working with you to make this closure as painless as possible. Please contact support@adecn.com to tell us how we can assist you in transitioning your business. Contact support@adecn.com or your Account Manager by January 15 if there are major issues with the February 15 date to discuss how we can make this transition off the Hosted system as amenable as possible.

We will only be able to provide redirect services to third party ad exchanges or servers through February 15, 2010. Billing and serving data will be available via the UI until March 15; on request we can also provide you with copies of the last 9 months’ billing invoices (provided we receive your request prior to February 15).

You may also want to review a list of alternative ad exchanges and infrastructure providers here.

We thank you again for your participation on the AdECN Exchange.

Sincerely,
AdECN Team

Update: apparently they are shutting down the “hosted” part of it only which is a “legacy product” and will be focusing entirely on RTB. So AdECN lives on. Seems really odd they wouldn’t mention that in their email. Bizarre.

It took a few days of back and forth with the Google folks to make sure the clicktracking macros were set up correctly, our tags and tracking worked in their system and so on, but we are now live and running a real non-test campaign on the Google/Doubleclick Ad Exchange (2.0). The only reason we mention in hear is because we heard that (1) very few networks/buyers have actually deployed campaigns on the platform so far, (2) only a fairly small number of networks have been approved to serve across the entire Google Content Network so far. As with any system we work with or integrate with, we’re hoping to very quickly learn the ins, outs, tricks and best practices to give the benefit thereof to our advertiser clients! It’s an exciting time for the online display advertising industry, and I look forward to seeing all the old faces next week in New York at ad:tech.

We recently had an ad network start buying via out CPMatic.com ad buying platform – even though we are already connected to them via the Right Media ad exchange, they have found immense value purchasing from us directly. They started with a $1000 test that quickly turned into $20,000 and more.

For ad networks that work in the RMX system, there are a few problems and things you cannot do currently some of which that were possible in earlier iterations of the system. 1) if firms are connected via the exchange, they cannot directly buy/sell behaviorally-targeted campaigns, 2) controls for directing campaigns to specific publishers are sometimes cumbersome and are very general, 3) there is a limit on the ‘depth’ of serving connections allowed, meaning that you cannot buy on another site or network via a partner even if it would make economic sense, due to limitations in the RMX adserving capabilities, and 4) we can of course apply our proprietary optimization techniques to make campaigns work.

We have had several networks buying media from us, and we certainly encourage them to set up an account and initiate it. While our system allows for the upload of ad tags for campaigns, please do note that we very closely scrutinize ad tags to prevent any issues from being introduced into the ecosystem. If you have any questions please contact us.

Here was the list as of today, I’m sure many more will be added soon. It appears the current order of the list is the order in which they were approved, though that may not be the case.

San Francisco, CA – September 16, 2009:

CPM Advisors, the smart cross-platform media buying solution for advertisers and agencies, today announced that it has joined the BlueKai Certification Program.

The BlueKai Certification Program enables agencies and marketers to easily define a standard in-market audience profile using BlueKai data while reaching audiences via their media partners. Additionally, the program provides a seal of quality to assure marketers that their online campaigns are powered by the data they’ve defined. The BlueKai Certification Program offers an interface where agencies or marketers can create a standard audience definition via a BlueKai data plan that is customized based on their RFP. They can then share this data plan with CPM Advisors who will then submit a proposal that incorporates both data and media costs. Certified BlueKai data, according to the marketer’s plan, is then delivered real-time to target this standardized audience across all chosen media.

“We’ve enjoyed working with the BlueKai team over the past year as they’ve continued to expand their data offerings, and we believe that our cross-platform access and optimization methodologies can best utilize and enhance the value of their data,” says Matt Esslinger, Vice President of Operations at CPM Advisors. “We focus on streamlining the media buying process operationally for clients using via our CPMatic.com media-buying portal and back-end tools, and programs such as this make the data buying process easier, and enable us to incorporate BlueKai data efficiently across multiple client campaigns.”

CPM Advisors, Inc. (CPMa) was founded in early 2008 and is based in San Francisco, California. CPMa operates CPMatic.com and provides optimized cross-platform media buying for advertisers and agencies, integrating with major publishers, ad exchanges, aggregators and marketplaces. The company’s founders and board members have previously built and funded Internet advertising management, adserving and optimization systems for several of the largest online advertisers. More information is available at http://cpmadvisors.com.
